Morning Brew 02/11/13 – Music Monday

Music Monday!

Spotify Playlist of the Week

K Billy’s Super Seventies – Watched Reservoir Dogs this weekend and couldn’t help but create and listen to this funk and 70’s Pop infused playlist.

Check This Out!

I know I am extremely late to the party, but check out one of the best album’s of last year by The Alabama Shakes, Boys & Girls.  Sounds like Jack White with a dash more of southern soul thrown in.  Best songs on the album are Hold On and Rise to the Sun.

Music News

Everyone loves new songs, but especially when it is Iron & Wine playing new songs!  Click through to watch a couple videos of guitar and mandolin from Sam Beam.

Apparently Phoenix is looking to channel some Thriller! magic by using the Harrison 4032 solid-state recording console used to mix Michael Jackson’ famous album.  Their new album is shaping up to be something special.  Super excited for it!

Listen to Pavement’s first show ever recorded on 90.3 KDVS in Davis, California.  Mellow Jazz Docent and Home would appear on their debut EP, Perfect Sound Forever in 1991.  Has it really been that long?
Watch Beck cover David Bowie’s song, Sound & Vision for a Lincoln Commercial.  It was filmed with 360-degree cameras to give someone a real audience experience.  Oh yeah, and Beck is playing with a full orchestra.  Beck is cool.
Sub Pop, the label which launched acts like Mudhoney, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Beach House, Fleet Foxes, and The Postal Service (heard of some of those?) are having a 25th Anniversary Bash and launching a record with some previously unheard material.

RIP Donald Byrd
