Weekend Brew 01/05/13

Epiphanies Aren’t Permanent – “…conversion experiences don’t stick—or they don’t stick for very long. Human beings have to be re-educated over and over and over again as we swim upstream against our own irrationalities.”  Jim Shephard plumbing some of the depth’s of Flannery O’Connor’s story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”.

Keeping the Balance  Brent follows up with a third post on the power and purpose of the gospel.  “One of the ways to think about “the Gospel” is literally as the reversal of the Fall.”  That is a powerful insight!

Stuff, Sanctification & the Suburban Child – A helpful three-part post from Jen Wilkin at the Village Blog on the dangers of consumerism and teaching our children to avoid consumerist tendencies.  Here is Part 2 and Part 3 if you want to jump there right away.

Ministry to the Poor – Steve McCoy over at Reformissionary has a great list of book recommendations on serving the poor and helping the needy.  I bookmarked this one for later use!

Team Commandments – Justin Buzzard shares 8 Team Commandments he uses with his staff at Garden City Church. These could work for any work environment, and I especially appreciate the focus on solving problems, thinking big, and having fun.  People will like working a job or at a church if they are consistently challenged and have a good time doing it.
